Teenage Boy Killed in Highway 99 Bicycle Crash with Car Near Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove, Oregon (December 7, 2017) - A teenage boy was killed Wednesday evening when he was hit by a vehicle near Cottage Grove, according to Oregon State Police.

The accident took place at 6 p.m. Dec. 6, on Highway 99S at milepost 10.5, about three miles north of Cottage Grove.

According to a police report, a 13-year-old boy was cycling on Highway 99S when he was hit by a southbound 2002 GMC  2500 pickup.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the pickup driver, identified as Richard L. Perini, 85, of Creswell, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The highway was shut down for three hours as officers investigated the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

Boy Killed, Two Injured in Government Camp Crash involving Two Vehicles on U.S. 26

Government Camp, Oregon (December 5, 2017) -  A boy was killed and two other people were injured Sunday evening when two vehicles collided on U.S. 26 about 10 miles southeast of Government Camp.

The fatal incident took place at about 4:30 Sunday, Dec. 2, on Highway 26 at milepost 65, south of Mount Hood.

As per the Oregon State Police Troopers, Kenneth Schmidt of Crooked River Ranch was driving a white 2004 Ford Excursion westbound on Highway 26 when he lost control on the snow-covered highway and drove into the oncoming traffic.  The Ford then struck an eastbound silver 2013 Subaru Outback.

Authorities said a 9-year-old boy, who was in the Subaru, died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Two other people, 48-year-old Debra Jean Hahn and 68-year-old Linda Jean Todd, were in the Subaru at the time of the crash.

Todd was flown to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Hahn was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities said Schmidt and his passengers sustained minor injuries.

No additional information regarding the crash was provided.

The incident is under investigation.
